Cat Grooming Clippers

When you think of grooming a pet you think more often of dogs than cats. If you have a long haired cat then you may well already brush them to keep their fur tangle free, but cats are more likely to sort out their own coats. So when might you need to use cat grooming clippers? One set of people that regularly use clippers are the cat owners who have show cats. It then becomes paramount that the cats have their fur in perfect condition.
Obviously cat grooming clippers are used in the veterinary clinics. If the cat is injured or requires surgery then sadly the fur in that area must be removed to allow proper access. It will of course regrow at a later date, but it is also a hygiene risk to leave the area unshaved as bacteria and dirt can live in the fur and create infection in the wound site.
Another reason for using clippers is if the cat managed to end up with matted fur for some reason. It can be that they roll in something that is sticky or adhesive, or it can simply be a tangle that the cat neglects to look after properly. It will sit there getting more and more matted until there is simply no choice but to remove it, and in this case clippers are the most pain free option for the cat. If you do have a cat with long hair then it is worth getting them used to the noise and feel of clippers. These can be done one at a time so you do not actually have to clip the hair.
To begin familiarizing the cat with the clippers, turn on the clippers and lay them on the side away from the cat so that they are safe. Then using a normal grooming brush, groom the coat as normal so the cat realizes that there is nothing different about the noise and the pressure on his fur. This means that if you do need to clip the fur ever it shouldn't be a trauma for the cat. If you cannot get the cat used to it and you need to clip the fur, you will have to take a trip to the vet so it can be done with the cat sedated which will cost you quite a lot of money. It is better if the cat can learn to see the clippers as a none threatening thing.
If you are really not confident clipping a cat's fur then look for a cat grooming parlor as they will have staff that are trained in this skill and will be more than happy to help you with your grooming needs. Short haired cats are unlikely to need clipping unless it is in the vet because of accident or treatment, so if you really do not like the idea of having a cat clipped steer clear of the long haired breeds and choose a short haired cat instead. You won't have to worry about cat clipping in anyway.
